Are you tired of your boring old backyard? Want to add some pizzazz to your outdoor space? Look no further than a brand new patio! But before you start laying down those bricks and pavers, you'll need to follow these simple steps to ensure that your patio is both functional and fabulous.
Step 1: Measure, measure, measure!
Before you can start laying your patio, you'll need to figure out how much space you have to work with. This means measuring the length and width of your garden, as well as taking into account any obstacles like trees or flower beds. Trust us, you don't want to end up with a patio that's too small to fit a table and chairs.
This is going to be the point where you work out all the materials you need. The Paving Expert website has some fantastic calculators.
Step 2: Choose your materials
There are a ton of different materials you can use to build your patio, from concrete to brick to stone. But before you make a decision, consider the overall aesthetic of your garden and your budget. If you're going for a rustic look, consider using natural stone. If you're on a tight budget, consider using concrete pavers.
Step 3: Dig it up
Now that you know how big your patio will be and what materials you'll use, it's time to start digging. Remove any grass or other vegetation from the area where your patio will be located, and dig down about 6 inches. This will create a solid foundation for your patio and prevent it from shifting over time.
Step 4: Lay it down
Now it's time for the fun part: laying your patio! Start by spreading a layer of
Type 1 MOT over the area you just dug up to a depth of 100mmm. This will level out the ground and create a smooth surface for your patio. Then, start laying your pavers or bricks in the pattern you've chosen. Don't forget to use a level to make sure everything is even!
If you have chosen a mixed pack of sizes please, please, please take the time to work out the pattern to avoid cross joints. If you are not sure what that is, click

Step 5: Seal it up
Once your patio is complete, it's important to seal it to protect it from the elements. This will help to prevent water from seeping into the cracks between your pavers and keep your patio looking beautiful for years to come.
And there you have it, a beautiful new patio for all your outdoor entertaining needs! Just remember, the key to success is measuring twice and digging once. Happy patio-ing!
